Shilpakala Award in different cultural categories
Seven persons have received the ‘Shilpakala Award-2014’ for their outstanding contribution to various cultural fields.

Syed Abdullah Khalid (Fine Arts)
Syed Abdullah Khalid (born in 1945) is a sculptor cum painter. He was born in Sylhet. He completed his BFA in painting in 1969 from East Pakistan College of Arts and Crafts (presently Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka) and did his MFA in painting and sculpture from the University of Chittagong in 1974. He is regarded as one of the most brilliant sculptors of our country. He is mainly recognised for his 'Aparajeyo Bangla', one of the most familiar sculptures, and considered a landmark, in Dhaka. A multi-talented artist, Khalid has not only excelled in sculpture but also made an impression with his paintings.
Throughout the '80s and '90s the artist had been active. Khalid likes to use a big canvas for portraying untamed nature, landscapes and still life. Losing himself in nature, the artist often takes themes from this opulent source and plays with colours on canvas. He occasionally likes to experiment with different forms and enjoys breaking and constructing them in many ways. Blossoming flowers and dense forests are recurring features in his paintings. In many of Khalid's works, one finds a great interchange between abstract and realistic forms.
Ustad Bazlur Rahman Badal (Dance)
Born in 1923, Ustad Bazlur Rahman Badal started dancing when he was very young. Although in the conservative Muslim society dancing was not allowed, he continued and specialised in folk dance. Badal became famous for his extraordinary dance composition of the poem Bidrohi (the rebel) of Kazi Nazrul Islam. His father's name is Abul Kasem and Mother's name is Shakina Bibi.
Pandit Amaresh Roy Chowdhury (Vocal)
Born in 1928 at Faridpur, Pandit Amaresh Roy Chowdhury learned classical music from legendary classical vocalists -- Sudhir Lal Chakrabarty, Harihar Shukla and Tarapada Chakrabarty. He also took lessons on Adhunik songs, Atulprasad's songs, Nazrul Sangeet and Shyama Sangeet from Netrakona's noted artiste and composer Nikhil Chandra Sen. He has received many awards in his illustrious career. These include "Sanket Sangskritik Goshthi Award"; "Ustad Gul Mohammad Memorial Award"; "Gunijan Sammanona" by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Dhaka in 1997; "Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman Sammanona Smarok" on the Victory Day in 2010 and "Rabindra Padak" by Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Shammeloan Parishad in 2014.
Pandit Modon Gopal Das (Instrumental)
'Tabla Specialist' Pandit Modon Gopal Das was born in 7th September, 1939 in Dhaka. Bijoy Chandra Das and Basna Rani Das are his parents. His becoming first in a 1967 music competition and attaining acclamation at 1973 while performing before Kazi Nazrul Islam proved to be inspirational for his future. Currently he is serving as the artist of special convenience at the BTV and guest instructor of Chayanot, Nazrul Academy, Shilpakala Academy and The University of Dhaka. He has received honorary regards from Nazrul Academy, Hindol Cultural Association, Surer Alo, Ostad RomoniMohon Smriti Parishad etc.
Ashraful Alam (Recitation)
Ashraful Alam was born on February 1 in 1947 in Rangpur. He did not study after passing SSC from his village school in 1961. He first presented recitation at his Rangpur Zilla School in class V. During the Liberation War, he regularly recited at Shadin Bangla Betar Kendro to inspire the freedom fighters. He has been taking part as instructor of recitation at Shilpakala Academy, Bangla Academy, Nazrul Institute, Shishu Academy, BUET and others. He has joined as judge in many times in different cultural programmes. He has visited many countries in Asia, Europe and other continents.
Lucky Enam (Theatre)
Lucky Enam was born on September 14, 1952 in Rangpur. Her mother is Mahua Bhuiyan and father is Kalimullah Bhuiyan. She is a girl from Feni, who graduated from the University of Dhaka. Lucky Enam has been scriptwriter of many stage dramas which include- "Sudur Diganta", "Begum Rokeya's Sultana's Dream" and "Akash Bhora Shurjo", literature for children "Pathorer Soup" and "Ushor Urbosi". Beside stage activities she has acted more than five hundred plays in Radio and Television and she has written over hundred scripts for the electronic media.
Shahidul Alam (Photography)
Shahidul Alam (born 1955, Dhaka, Bangladesh) is a Bangladeshi photographer. His work has been shown at leading museums and galleries in the world, such as Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Georges Pompidou Centre in Paris, The Tehran Museum of Contemporary Arts, the National Art Gallery in Malaysia and the Tate Modern in Britain. Alam studied and taught chemistry in London where he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of London. In 1989, he set up Drik picture library and in 1998, Pathshala: South Asian Institute of Photography. He is also a director of Chobi Mela, the festival of photography in Asia. Jury member of numerous competitions including World Press Photo where he has been a judge on four occasions, he was the first person of colour to chair the international jury in World Press Photo history. Alam was the first Asian recipient of the prestigious Mother Jones Award for Documentary Photography. His numerous other awards include the Andrea Frank Foundation Award and the Howard Chapnick Award. He has also been awarded the Honorary Fellowships of the Bangladesh Photographic Society and later, the Royal Photographic Society in 2001, for his contribution to photography.
